Georgia O'Keeffe 1918 -- A Beautiful Woman As Seen by Stieglitz

Georgia O'Keeffe moved to New York in 1918 after Paul Strand was sent by Alfred Stieglitz to visit O'Keeffe in Texas and to urge her to accept a one-year stipend to paint in New York City.  O'Keeffe had been ill and Stieglitz was not only deeply concerned about her health, but also enamored with her both artistically and personally.

Stieglitz had featured O'Keeffe in a one-person show at his Gallery 291 in 1917 and O'Keeffe realized that she now stood in the ranks of the most important modern artists of the century.  They had corresponded almost daily -- at first professionally -- then on an increasingly personal level.

O'Keeffe accepted the offer, returned to New York and the rest is history . . .

Stieglitz immediately began photographing the beautiful woman with whom he had fallen in love . .
