This sale was far below the price garnered for another of her oil paintings of Ghost Ranch.  Her oil, My Back Yard, sold for $ 1,803,750 in May of 2013.

Ghost Ranch, Georgia O'Keeffe's home near Abiquiu, New Mexico is open to the public for tours and winter is a perfect time to visit both the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe and the Ghost Ranch.

While you are in New Mexico, it is a short hop to one of my favorite places, Taos, New Mexico, first visited by Georgia O'Keeffe in 1929.  Be sure to visit the site of the church at the Ranchos de Taos, the church that O'Keeffe painted many times.

In Taos, you can stay at the former home of Mabel Dodge Luhan where Georgia O'Keeffe stayed on her pivotal visit to New Mexico.  You can even stay in the same room where O'Keeffe stayed at the Mabel Dodge Luhan Inn.  It was here that she first learned to drive a car, and shortly thereafter, she bought her first automobile.
