What would O'Keeffe Think? O'Keeffe and Stieglitz Re-imagined in Sarasota

In my last blog post I said I couldn't quite image how O'Keeffe and Stieglitz would be treated in this avant-garde production at the Ice House on 10th in Sarasota, Florida

Luckily, I was able to find a review of the production and photos of three of the events so now I can share that information with O'Keeffe fans.  Check out the short video of the event at Art Bay to get a feel for the scope of the event which included over 100 works of art from 20 artists.

This exhibition was designed to give present-day artists an opportunity to showcase their version of what the work of O'Keeffe and Stieglitz might look like if they were alive today.

Using a variety of modern day media (printers, digital cameras, Photoshop, etc.), as well as the old standbys such as dance, the spoken word, and improv, the artists did just that.

The interpretative performance by FuziĆ³n Dance Artists  focused on the work of and the relationship between O'Keeffe and Stieglitz.

Elish Byerly transformed herself from Alfred Stieglitz (dressed in a black suit) to Georgia O'Keeffe (striping down to a simple slip and scarf).

Work also included an installation of hanging love letters (which can be seen in the above photo) as well as an aerial video of O'Keeffe's beloved New Mexico landscapes.

A solo interpretive dance in a sandbox utilized familiar items from

O'Keeffe's life (bones, flowers, cactus).

Carrie Seidman, arts reviewer for the Sarasota Herald Tribune, wrote an extensive review of the production Reimagining O'Keeffe and Stieglitz.  I urge you to read her article:

REVIEW: In the innovative spirit of Georgia O'Keeffe and Alfred Stieglitz.

I really like the innovation but, quite frankly, I think O'Keeffe would roll over in her grave if she saw some of this.

Thoughts?
